Are there other CPAP machines besides Philips?

Since 2016 in the UK, the world of Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA) therapy and CPAP machines have been dominated by the Philips Respironics DreamStation. With incredible technical features, competitive pricing and the Philips brand name. The Dreamstation has been no1 in the private sector and supplied extensively by the NHS for OSA treatment for the last five years. Philips is a massive manufacturer of many electronic products and a recognised brand worldwide. The Dreamstation was the next level of therapy for OSA over their previous CPAP machine, the System One REMstar 60.

Should I still use my Philips DreamStation?

So, what does this mean to the people using their CPAP machine? Essentially it’s a recall and a halt of supply and sale of the DreamStation for the foreseeable future. You should not use your affected DreamStation device and should register it for the recall.

• DreamStation ST, AVAPS.
• SystemOne ASV4.
• C Series ASV, S/T, AVAPS.
• OmniLab Advanced Plus In-Lab Titration Device.
• SystemOne (Q series)
• DreamStation CPAP, Auto CPAP, BiPAP.

Phillips has since released a DreamStation 2 device with a different foam design and an integrated humidifier that is not disrupted by the recall.

Is there a shortage of CPAP machines?

The short answer is yes.  The impact of the covid global pandemic has affected many electronic products’ production and subsequent supply. Everything that needs a chip is scarce, from the PlayStation 5 to new cars and CPAP machines. The Phillips recall increased the demand for replacement CPAP machines.

Are there alternatives to the Philips DreamStation?
