SoClean 2 CPAP Sanitiser

As a CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) user, you may or may not have heard about the SoClean 2. This post will explain all you need to know about the popular CPAP sanitiser – read on to find out more!

What is SoClean 2?

Cleaning your CPAP equipment (CPAP mask, hose and reservoir) helps maintain its lifespan; the SoClean 2 helps by automatically sanitising your equipment – killing 99.9% of bacteria and viruses in your CPAP equipment.

SoClean Inc created the device to sanitise and disinfect your CPAP maskhose, and reservoir without you needing to take any pieces apart.

The machine pumps Ozone internally at a safe level – This has been tested and approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration).

This device is a reliable source for CPAP users; In 2020, SoClean received the HME Business New Product Award.

How does the SoClean CPAP sanitiser work?

The SoClean uses activated oxygen (a natural disinfectant), known as Ozone – this gives off a smell similar to the scent of your clean items.

SoClean uses the same sanitising process as hospitals and water purification.

After quickly setting up your SoClean –

The device pumps the generated Ozone through the SoClean supply tube and into the reservoir, sanitising the walls and water of your humidifier (if not empty). The Ozone travels through your CPAP hose, eliminating bacteria in all crevices. Soon after, the Ozone reaches your CPAP mask, powerfully sanitising each part.

All in a 5 to 15-minute run time.

Finally, during the device’s 2-hour resting period – the activated oxygen (Ozone) exits the chamber through a filter that converts any excess Ozone back into breathable oxygen – Safe and simple.

You can also use a ‘neutralising prewash‘; this is a liquid that you can mix with water to remove any odours from your CPAP equipment before using your SoClean.

Please note if you use a humidifier to activate the cleaning process, you may need an adaptor. To learn more about the adaptors and compatibility, take a look at the product page.

The Phillips Recall: Is SoClean 2 safe to use?

The simple answer is yes. It is safe to use.

Let’s take a closer look into why we need to address the safety of the SoClean 2.

The Phillps Respironics recall in 2021 majorly affected the reputation of the SoClean Inc device. Phillips claimed that “cleaning methods such as Ozone may contribute to foam degradation” of their Dreamstation recalled devices.

This claim, unfortunately, affected the reputation and support of the SoClean device.

SoClean responded, “While it was suggested the foam degradation may be exacerbated by using an ozone cleaner, almost 90% of the products being recalled have no connection to an ozone cleaning device. The lawsuits have not been properly investigated, have no basis in fact, and are without any legal merit.”

SoClean is supported by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as they stated: “although the use of ozone cleaners by device users may have exacerbated the degradation of the PE-PUR foam, evidence indicates that the unreasonable risk associated with the products was not caused by the use of ozone cleaning agents, nor did the use of ozone to clean the products constitute a failure to exercise due care” – May 2022.

To Summarise

SoClean is committed to the health and safety of sleep equipment users, supporting Philips in its recall efforts and wishes to ensure that CPAP users have as much information on this important action as possible.

SoClean Inc has said:

“Almost all the machines affected by this recall have no connection to an ozone-related cleaning device.”

To summarise, the SoClean is a safe and effective way to sanitise CPAP equipment.
